OVERLAND PARK DIVORCE ATTORNEY ANSWERS: HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT AFTER A DIVORCE TO GET MARRIED?

Lauren Fields Nov. 13, 2020

Hi, my name is Lauren Fields. I’m an attorney on the domestic litigation team at Roth Davies. Today I am going to answer some questions asked to attorneys in divorce cases. Can I remarry if I file for divorce? The answer is yes. Sometimes people file for a divorce because they have a significant other and they decided that significant other is someone they want to marry later on. That is completely fine as long as your divorce is finalized, the judge enters the Decree of Divorce and thirty days have passed since entering the Decree for Divorce. If you try to remarry before those thirty days pass, sometimes the judge will find that it is a void or voidable marriage.
