Don’t be reactionary and especially don’t be reactionary whenever it is an emotional response. Now in your professional life, someone at some point is going to send you an email that makes you mad or frustrates you. Don’t sit down right then and there and pound out an email telling them how terrible they are, how they don’t understand, and they’re ignorant. Don’t do that, take some time and think about it. You don’t want to pound off some email that is going to come back at you at some point. You want to give people the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were having a bad day and don’t be reactionary. This also translates over into your personal life. Whenever someone does something that evokes an emotional response. Try to calm yourself down, try to think critically about the decision you’re are going to make. Very rarely are you going to make the correct, long term decision in an instant. So, don’t be reactionary when it comes to an emotional response.
